The most powerful investment a company can make isn’t found on a balance sheet- it’s found in its people. When organisations choose to treat their employees with kindness, respect and genuine care they also plant the seeds of customer loyalty.
After years of dedicated service, it is both fitting and inspiring to invite a long serving employee to share their personal wish list before retirement. This gesture is more than a token of appreciation – it is a reflection of our values as a company. By listening to the requests and hopes we demonstrate that loyalty has been met with gratitude. Our people are at the heart of our success, and this very spirit of care strengthens the bond between our work family, our brand and into the community we serve.
Today we are celebrating Chris Mellors who has dedicated 38years of service to Kadant PAAL Ltd and before Chris embarks on his retirement, we are delighted to make one of his long-held wishes come true. A token of our appreciation for his remarkable career is a visit to the PAAL factory in Osnabruck, Germany.

In Chris’s early days, when Kadant PAAL Ltd was known as Dicom Ltd, he was at the forefront when the company introduced the installation of PAAL horizontal balers in the UK. At this point he worked closely with one of the PAAL engineers, Martin Dubicki, who assisted with the installation process for PAAL Products. All those years ago during Martins work trips to the UK Chris welcomed him into his family home, for which in his appreciation he presented Chris with a beer glass that he had engraved himself. To this day Chris still has the glass! The beauty of Chris’s visit to the PAAL factory is that Martin still works at Kadant PAAL GmbH, and they were able to meet up reminisce and share their career experiences.
On this celebration trip for Chris to Germany, Dale Keeling and Nathan Knowles also accompanied him to reinforce today’s alignment and enhance rapport and communication, strengthening intercompany connections and discussing current topics. A fruitful trip for all.

On Wednesday 26th November, this double celebration of Chris’s official retirement and birthday, as many Kadant PAAL employees and associated friends as possible came together to celebrate him to reflect the high regard and appreciation we have for Chris. We are sure Chris will be getting company updates as his legacy within Kadant PAAL lives on with his two sons, Gary and Ian and now also his grandson Taylor working within our Kadant PAAL Ltd community.
Let’s always remember that the way a team feels inside the workplace inevitably shapes the way they interact outside of it.
